CONSTRUCT 2.0 DEVELOPING ALL STUDENTS
How will we apply standardized data that will offer students with appropriate academic support as we monitor student progress and determine the extent to which students have the social, emotional, psychological, and cognitive skills expected for high school during their middle school developmental years? (See Site Council Progress Report)
- We will focus on student centered learning as a process of shifting the responsibility from the instructor to the students, creating learning environments that motivate students to accept responsibility for learning. (See Road Map to Student Centered Learning)
2.1 Monitoring Student Progress and Instructional Program
- We will determine at the beginning of the school year the developmental standard scores for our reading lexile ranges for all three grade levels to represent the overall reading literacy levels. (See Reading Data Report)
2.2 Sharing Student Learning Results
- We will establish for each student an entry level of performance and use this score to determine expected levels of growth for a selected term during the school year.
2.3 Implementing a Variety of Activities
- We will focus on ensuring that all students have access to a variety of student centered activities where a diverse population will have more opportunities to participate in the development of leadership skills.
- All students will have the opportunity to participate in intra and extra-curricular activities such as Student Council, Heritage Panel, National Junior Honor Society, Scholar’s Bowl, Latino Leadership Day, Drama Club, Honor Choir, Jazz Band and Honor Orchestra, Weightlifting Club, Flash Mob Dance Club, Book Club and Cardinal Jam.
- All students will have the opportunity to participate in after-school sports such as cross-country, soccer, football, volleyball, drill team, cheerleading, basketball, wrestling and track.
2.4 Providing Student Support Services
- When lexile scores are reported during the midterm of the school year, we will compute student growth based on the student, parent and teacher’s goal to make comparisons that will validate success or recommend learning support needed.
